What are the 3 things that I would do if I had only 24 hours to live?

A question my dear friend HH asked me today, her topic for Toast Masters Club tomorrow.. I thought for a few seconds, and the following are what I wish to do, in the sequence stated below:

1. Call up all my close friends and talk to them for one good last time, and not mentioning that I will be gone after the day.

2. Call up my brother, sister, and my parents, talk to them to ask them to take good care of themselves, not mentioning that I will be gone in a while.. After the calls, I will write them a love letter.

3. Call up the person whom I love to be with, share with him about my situation and let him know that I wish to be with him for the last few hours..

No other things came into my mind, except my loved ones, at the point that I have to make the decision about what I would like to do in the remaining hours.

City Duathlon 2008

First fun race in 2008 on 8-Jun. It was a last minute participation, which Sean's friend withdrew from the race, and I took the place. I was Vanessa (Bib No 0908) on that day ;)

Started with a slow paced run, but my left knee muscles started to get stiff and a little painful after 2nd loop of the 10km run. Took it even slower, coz I just wanted to complete the race.

Bike leg was like a breeze, and surprisingly muscles were not making fun of me. Finished the bike leg faster than I expected, thought that my timing had improved tremendously, but only then I realized the organizer shortened the bike route by mistake on that day!

The last run leg was disappointing.. could not run, just walked, as the left knee muscles decided not to cooperate for the day..

Many funny things I encountered on that day:
* While coming back on the last part of the 1st leg, one of the ushers (who are school kids) cheered at me "Da Jie, Jia You!!" I thought I should be angry, but I laughed!
* The DJ joked on my Team Turtle jersey that says "Slow cyclists please overtake" which I was coming back for the bike leg.
* When I was changing into my cycling shoes, my neighbor 0907 came back from her bike leg.. it was soooooooooo motivating, haha!! :P
* My shoes were soaked with muddy water before I started my bike leg, as we had to pass by a muddy patch before biking out :(
* Saw a bad bike crash.. the bike flew off quite high.. hope that guy is ok now.
* The bike route is extremely dangerous this year.. hope there will be improvement next race.

Overall, it was fun to try out the whole race alone. Have decided to train more on the run to equip myself for next year!

My timing: 1:25:39 (Run 10km), 1:00:53 (Bike 22km), 0:50:30 (Run 5km), 3:17:01 (Total) - Run, bike, walk actually ;p

Family Time

This is what I saw at my usual organic vegetarian shop while having dinner just now:

An Indian family, husband and wife with 3 grown-up kids, 1 girl 2 boys. They did nothing after dinner, but had tea, and just dedicated the time for one another to talk and listen. I thought this must have helped the kids to be vocal, and be able to voice out own opinions, and build confidence in speaking.

**

It's something I think it lack in our family when we were much younger, to train us to be more vocal. Dad eats very fast and he is the first one to finish his meal most of the time. He will leave the dining table most of the time, while the rest of us are still having dinner. As I grew older, I have purposely requested him to stay a while more with us, just to be together and have some chat, as family time with everyone around is not frequent.

Hope my sis and bro can practise what I saw with the family, especially with the kids, so that my nephews (and nieces in the future) will grow up to be confident, and family oriented.
