In memory of Philip, a cycling mate

11.1.11

He passed away this morning due to liver cancer. The last time I saw him was at a lunch after our group's Desaru long ride on Vesak Day 2010.

The fatherly man reminded me about PERSEVERANCE. At an age of over 60, he could ride long distances, and insisted on completing every ride. There were at least 3 times that I remember I was cycling either in front or behind him, as we were the last ones in our group.

In a long ride where he lost one of his bottles and did not have enough water, we had a short stop for slight recovery. I remember he said this, that he had never given up in riding no matter how tough, and would not flag for a cab in the middle of his ride.

In the Desaru ride, I could even hear him trying to catch his breath under the extreme hot sun, and I kept asking him if he was all right.

But he continued on in all the rides, without giving up. I salute his mental strength, and I hope he now can rest in peace and without pain.

About risk

There was a question read:

There are 3 frogs on a leaf. If one of them decided to jump off the leaf into the water, how many frogs are there left on the leaf?

*****************************
*****************************
Three. Because the frog only DECIDED to jump! It didn't!

Are you not unlike the frog, who decides to do this, decides to do that, but ended up not doing any? In life, we have to make many decisions. Some easy, some hard. Most mistakes are not made by wrong decisions. Most mistakes are made due to indecision. We have to live with the consequences of our decisions. And that is RISK.

*****************************

~~ RISK ~~
To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out to another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To live is to risk dying.
To hope is to risk despair.
To try is to risk failure.
But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live. Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom.

Only a person who risks is free.
The pessimist complains about the wind, the optimist expects it to change, and the realist adjusts the sails.

About spring cleaning

01.01.2011

Emotional spring cleaning through adequate routine house cleaning -- one of the therapeutic means to achieve emotional health and happiness.

It's something that I feel all the while without understanding, but today, I truly understand and experience the awareness.
